5 Major Poker Mistake

poker mistakeBecoming a good poker betting player is a drive that includes picking up tips and recommendation along the way. unluckily, it’s easy to forget (or ignore) what we’ve already learned on this journey. That being said, here are 5 common poker mistakes you should never forget.

1. Not looking for Easy Games

Either out of laziness or ignorance, some players just don’t take the time to look for easy poker games. However, making money in poker is just as much about finding opponents you can beat as it is about being a good player. This being the case, you should always look at the flop-viewed percentage (the higher the better) and the average pot size (the lower the better) for each table.

2. Playing Losing Sessions Too Long

One of the biggest problems with gambling occurs when you start losing; at this point, you want to play until you win the money back. Unfortunately, what usually ends up happening is that you play too long and lose even more money in the process. Even though it’s tough, you need to quit losing sessions when you’re making mental errors.

3. Quitting while you’re Ahead

As silly as it is, many of us quit winning poker sessions early just so we can feel like a winner. The obvious problem with this is that A) you don’t capitalize on winning sessions, and B) you won’t improve by quitting just to log wins. Case in point, don’t quit while you’re ahead for fear that it could turn into a losing session.

4. Calling to see if someone is bluffing

Bluffing is one of the most overrated aspects of poker. Even still, many players are constantly worried about being bluffed, and so they call everything. Sure players bluff sometimes, but the large majority of the time, players actually have a decent hand when they’re making big raises or re-raises. If you’re constantly in fear of being bluffed, you need to work on putting opponents on a range of hands.

5. Not studying your Results

No matter whether you’re a beginner or professional poker player, you need to be studying your results after sessions. This means looking at hand histories to see when you are making plays with negative expected value, and reading/watching strategy advice to fix leaks. The more work you put into studying your results, the better player you’ll be in the long run.

Useful Tips for Casino Visitors

The in-built house benefit that casinos wield over all the games they offer is persistent, a virtual assurance to wear down every gambler’s bankroll over the extended haul.

But did you know the velocity at which people play the games has a direct force on how hard the house perimeter will hit them?

Because you can play a slot machine more rapidly than any table game, it is significant to play at a slower pace. Spinning the reels every few seconds during any given playing session translates into a major asset, every dollar of which gets hammered by the house edge.

By slowing down the speed at which you play slots you give yourself a fighting chance of staying in the game longer.

Video poker has a legion of fans who are attracted to the game because every hand you are dealt and every card you draw is as random as a computer program will allow.

This makes the game as close as humanly possible to playing with your own 52-card deck at the kitchen table. A virtual deck of cards is constantly being shuffled between plays in the game’s computer program.

When you make a bet and hit the deal button, the shuffling stops and five cards are dealt off the top popping up left to right on the screen. The shuffling of the remaining virtual cards continues until you make a decision on what to hold.

When you hit draw, the number of cards you need to fill your hand pop up in the vacated spaces.

Of all the wagers you can make in a casino there is one in which the odds aren’t stacked against you. That wager is called “free odds” and it’s found at the craps tables. The odds are free because the house takes no edge on them.

Payoffs are made at true mathematical odds. Here’s what you should know. Once you make a line bet and a point is established, you have the option of making an additional bet that the point will be made.

Playing free odds is essential to taking advantage of the opportunities at the dice table and in doing so you’re also trimming even further the low house edge that the casino takes on line bets. It’s really the best bet you can make on any casino game and makes learning how to play craps well worth the effort.

Building up playing credits on slot and video poker machines carries seeds of destruction for recreational gaming enthusiasts. When you are playing with electronically metered credits instead of cold, hard cash, it is easy for your money to lose its value.

Always be aware accurately how much money you have on the machine in credits no matter what number you are playing. With the increase in the number of low-denomination slot games, it’s easy to forget that pennies add up to dollars. Don’t make the mistake of extravagant away any good luck by neglecting

Poker Tips – Texas Hold’em Tips By Professionals

Poker Tips

If you win poker as much as you want, you might be surprised that some adjustments to his style of play can make great positive changes in their funds. Here are some Texas Hold’em tips by professionals.

Aggressive play: Playing aggressively is very important in Hold’em. The only people who make the big time Hold’em players are aggressive. However, playing an aggressive game does not mean stupid. Aggressive play requires a delicate balance and attention to your chip count. Just to play aggressively when it makes sense to do so, otherwise the risk is too much.

Stealing Blinds: When you have the opportunity in late position, always try to steal the blinds to cut it. To do this, you should be aware of all the players still holding tight, the players’ actions that you consider to be loose and the relative size or stacks of chips you’re less likely to be called with a big stack. It is also important to recognize any player who defends the blind.

Marginal Hands: Play marginal hands (and a lot of hands) are properly critical. You should never play the blinds or attitudes at the beginning, always placing pre-flop, but never bet too much if the flop does not work for you to get ours in the kitchen and forget to go after bowel forehand.

Pot Odds: Learn to compute pot odds. Most players either can’t or don’t bother. By paying attention and playing only with a positive expectation you can increase your win rate enormously. Once you understand how it works you can manipulate the pot odds in your favor.

All-ins: Going all-in and call an all-in Hold’em is the adrenaline, but also a way to finish a tournament early. Try to seal the deal before going all in, and make sure that the odds are in your favor. Similar arguments apply to the convening of an all in, which, except in exceptional circumstances a player goes all-in will have a strong hand.

These all are the poker tips which help you to play poker and increase your bank roll.

Select Bluffing Tips Pulled From a Sea of Many

Outside of the cards and the money, the bluff is probably the most celebrated element to poker.

Poker, unlike a table game like blackjack or a pull of a slot machine, is the only game in the gambling world where money can be won without having an outright win. All you have to do is convince your opponent that you hold a superior hand to theirs, forcing them to fold.

The bluff is a powerful tool in poker, especially in a game such as no-limit Hold ‘Em, but it can also be a tremendous leak if attempted too frequently and against the wrong opposition.

Here are a few select tips (there’s no way to cover them all in 20 articles, much less this one) of key points in the art of the bluff:

Preferably have a backup draw: On the flop and turn, it’s best to do the bluffing with a chance to improve into a hand that no longer needs a bluff to take down the pot. Bluffing (often referred to as a semi-bluff in this situation) with a straight or flush draw, or even to a high pair such as a king or ace that could eventually produce top pair would all fit into these criteria.

Keep opponents at a minimum: It’s easier to convince one or two players that you are telling the truth than three or four. Ideally, the action preceding the bluffing has you heads-up against a lone opponent.

Don’t bluff to be a showoff: While a gutsy bluff is likely to rouse a great response from your tablemates that should never be the goal. You bluff because you notice a weakness in your opponents and are convinced it was the right thing to do, given the situation.

Bluff a hand that’s possible: It’s common to see boards with three cards of the same suit by the time the action gets to the turn. It would be perfectly logical for an opponent to believe that you hold a flush. By bluffing with a specific hand, it gives the move more power versus simply trying to push your opponent around with perceived strength.

Weigh in the stack size: Opponents with either significantly large or short chip stacks are not good bluffing targets for obvious reasons. The big-money player is more likely to call your bluff. A short-stack is likely to respond by moving all-in, which can force a somewhat embarrassing fold if you aren’t bluffing with any potential draw.

Blinds can have anything: If you are sitting in either the small or big blinds seats, your perceived range of hands is much larger than that of a player in another seat because you are already invested in the hand, and it’s cheaper to see a flop. So, it’s very logical that a junk flop with low cards can hit your hand, making it an opportune time to steal the pot.

Checks around: In any situation where the table checks around the action in a multi-way pot, it’s never a bad idea to fire away at the pot when the action gets to you.

Poker Tips – An Action Packed August

Late summer and early autumn are times when poker blossoms. At this time of the year there is a veritable feast of both live and online events that could keep any poker player occupied more or less permanently. To help you through these action packed times, we though you might like a few hot poker tips.

Always re-raise when possible – you have a good hand and you have beer re-raised; your best action is to re-raise again so as to increase the size of the pot. If you don’t think you will win, then get out straight away, but you are still in therefore you think you will win, so maximise your profits.

Play every pot that is worthwhile – you can’t win a pot if you are not in it. Don’t play with rubbish, but make sure other players pay to see the flop. Make them fold and take their blinds as more people fold than play.

Go all in on big pots that you have encouraged – by raising and re-raising you have driven the pot to a high level and there is still the river and maybe the turn to go. Now is the time to go all in. It will be tough for your opponents to decide whether or not to call and mostly he or she will fold and you win a huge pot.

Go all-in when you have the biggest stack – especially when you have forced up the pot. This really puts pressure on your opponents and it is a reliable way of intimidating them into making errors of judgment.

Yes – all these tips concern aggressive play, but August is a good time to get aggressive if you intend to win some substantial cash and build up your bankroll.

Tips on bluffing and value-betting in 2-7 Triple Draw

Bluffing and Value-Betting

You can win a lot of pots by bluffing in Triple Draw, especially in pots being contested between just you and one other player. For example, let’s say you’re out of position on the final betting round. You draw one card and your opponent draws one card. You pair an Eight so your hand is worthless. Bet! Chances are your opponent didn’t catch a very good card either so they might just fold. Anytime you’re out of position when the draw is one-card, one-card on the third draw, I would bet with strong hands and total garbage and check-call with mediocre hands like King-low. Unless your opponent is super passive and never going to bet unless they filled up a monster on the end. In this case, you should bluff with a wider range and check-call with a smaller range.

A common situation in Triple Draw is when a player stands pat on the second draw and checks to you after you also stood pat. I think you should almost always bet in this situation. One of two things will be the case: you’ll have a really strong hand that you should bet anyway or you’ll have something that you’re not sure whether or not is good (a bad eight low, a nine low or maybe a ten low). By betting with these hands, you’re representing a strong hand. There are two benefits to this: a.) you might actually be able to get your opponent to fold or call and then discard one and b.) you set up an easy check-behind on the river. Some players will stand pat after the second draw with something like a ten low. When they see their opponent stand pat and bet, they might think, “damn, this guy must have a better hand than me, I better [fold or call and ditch the ten]“. Either one of those things is great for you especially if you’re holding something like a worse ten low!

Texas Hold’em Basics

Keys to How to Play Holdem

long with the dramatic increase in popularity of poker in general, and Texas Holdem in particular, comes a tidal wave of new players who may not be newbies to poker itself, but definitely are beginners in comparison to experienced players. These beginning players have been influenced significantly by what they have seen on television. While this is cool and all, from a practical standpoint it has some disastrous implications for the beginners wanting to learn how to play Texas Hold’em.

To be blunt, if you watch Tiger Woods hook a three iron around a dogleg, over a sand trap, and then stop it on a dime on the green, don’t try this at home, kids. That’s not to say that all poker shown on television is Tiger Woods-like. Far from it. Some of the TV play is hopelessly bad — if only because even the best players sometimes make terrible plays.

The thing newbies need to remember is that the poker hands we see on TV do not well represent what makes a great poker player. First and foremost, the truly great players in all game disciplines master the fundamentals. Ted Williams, Earl Anthony, Magic Johnson, Cheryl Miller, Joe Montana, Martina Navratilova… all these folks spent hours and hours on fundamentals even AFTER they were superstars. In fact, great players devote much of their time to improving at those fundamentals they aren’t particularly good at.

Like any other game, Texas Hold’em has fundamental/basics that aren’t very flashy or readily apparent, but must be mastered (and continually mastered) before excellence can be achieved.

Discipline. No skills matter if you don’t have the wherewithal to follow through. If you know you shouldn’t tilt, but tilt anyway, you suck at discipline. And, you suck as a poker player compared to the poker player you could be. You may still be better than average, but you are a shadow of what you should be. It is almost impossible to work too hard on your discipline.

Bets. The bet is the atom of poker. Chips are electrons and protons, but the bet is the building block of everything good and bad that takes place in poker — if you play for money, that is. If you play to satisfy ego urges, rather than to win money, then you have different priorities, and you’ve blundered onto the wrong website. All ring game poker concepts revolve around the bet. (Tournaments are different. Surviving and being the lone winner are tournament concepts that don’t transfer to ring games.) You are not trying to win pots. You are trying to get the best of it on bets. You are trying to wager money, make bets, with a mathematically favorable expectation. This involves having as a coincidental goal the winning of pots, but that is not the main goal, and certainly not the focus of our efforts. We simply want to get our money in with the best of it. Win or lose, good luck or bad luck, that really is not the point. Let the bad players fixate on the results. You should fixate on doing the right thing.

Having the discipline to do the right thing all the time (more or less) is the basic of the basics.

The blinds. Poker is a thinking person’s game. When bets are made without thinking, either by bad players or when “forced” via the game rules (as blinds or antes are), this is the fundamental money at stake in the contest. Thoughtful play must significantly focus on the bets that are made thoughtlessly! Attack the bad players, and attack the blinds. Thoughtful players have an edge over semi-thoughtful players, but thoughtful players have enormous edges over bets made without thought (again, either by thoughtless/bad players or by any player because they are forced by the rules to make the bet).

Limit versus No Limit. Most of the Holdem on television is No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament poker. This is about as different from Limit Texas Holdem ring game poker as two things of the same species can get. Many of the winning tacticsused in No Limit tournaments are either useless or counterproductive in Limit Texas Hold’em ring games. Chainsaws may cut most things better, but butter knifes are more appropriate for some tasks. Just because you saw a skilled lumberjack cut down an oak tree with one doesn’t mean you should use a chainsaw to cut butter.

Starting hands. One of the most poorly considered basics of Texas Hold’em is the fixation novices have on starting hands, with a corresponding focus on starting hand charts and groups. Texas Hold’em is much more of a post-flop game than a pre-flop one, but novices and mediocre players fixate on following guidelines on starting hands. Without learning to understand why you are playing a certain hand, and how you intend to play it after a variety of different types of flops, you are fully missing the point of the game. Learn why and how to play hands, not the simplistic what to play. Learning how to play Texas Hold’em means learning to understand the reasons you are doing the “what” you are doing.

Fundamentals win ball games and poker games and games of every sort. Let the suckers try to buy lunch with their egos. You should focus on the basics of making thoughtful bets when you have the best of it, and then you can focus on buying lunch with your profits — profits courtesy of the bad players, the ego players, and the players who simply don’t work on the fundamentals enough.

There is no reason answer, or chart, or diagram you can refer that teaches you how to play Texas Holdem, if you want to win that is. But following the various links here will lead you through the web of related concepts you need to master.

Online Poker Strategy

Satellite definition: A preliminary tournament held before a larger tournament; commonly where 10 players each put up 1/10th of the entry fee of a larger event and the winner uses the prize to enter the larger tournament. A satellite specialist is a player who normally doesn’t enter major tournaments, but instead plays the one-table preliminaries, pocketing any profits.

Single table satellites are a form of poker unlike any other. The genesis of the satellite concept originated over twenty years ago during the run-up to the World Series of Poker. Instead of just plopping down $10,000 (or whatever) to enter an event, ten players put up 1/10th of that amount (plus a little for the casino), with the winner winning entry into the larger event. Satellites led to the first great growth spurt in tournament poker.

These days one table satellites have been joined by two relatives. The first relatives are super satellites where many tables of players play and multiple seats are awarded to a main event. The second relatives are online “sit-and-go” one and two table tournaments where normally either three or four people win money.

So, since being there at four players is a goal in itself, what does that suggest strategically? What it doesn’t suggest if what many people do: play loose, wild poker, trying to “get lucky”. Except for No Limit Hold’em, where playing speculative hands for the minimum bet at the beginning almost always makes sense, in the other games survival is rewarded much more highly than doubling up early. Winning one hand a round is a lot better than 1/3 as good as winning three hands a round. Satellites are not like ring games where every pot brings equal valued chips, and they aren’t like regular tournaments with their multiple player prize pools. In satellites, getting all or a part of first prize is everything, and you can’t get any of the gravy if you aren’t at the table. Fighting battles at the mostly irrelevant point of the beginning of a satellite gains you very little (again, with No Limit being an exception). Playing solid, strong starting hands that offer big edges offers you the opportunity to incrementally raise your stack with relatively little risk, while offering you a good opportunity to be one of the final four contenders. At this point shorthanded poker and tournament dealmaking skills become the dominant factor in the game.

Suppose all you had to do to get head-up in a satellite was double your chips. You would be a 4-1 underdog, but wouldn’t that be just fine by you … getting about 10-1 on your money while being a 4-1 underdog? And since blinds will be through the roof, all you have to do is win two hands in a row to be a 4-1 favorite, and all you have to do is win one hand to be a 3-2 underdog when a deal can often easily be made.

The high limits at the end of satellites often lead to a pure crapshoot, a series of coin flips. No skill in that. The skill is to get to coin flip time, and either take the flips while getting excellent odds, or make a deal to take luck out of it and cut up the prize money.

Don’t try to get lucky at the beginning of a satellite. Use your skill. At the end of a satellite, use your dealmaking skills, or just face the coin flip hands and accept that luck determines your fate. You can’t use skill in a coin flip, but you can use skill at the start of a satellite. In other words, make it your strategy to use your skill when you can use your skill!
